2018 Housing Credit Allocation

The preliminary self-scored allocation list (PDF) for 2018's 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credit is now public.

35 worthy and much-needed projects applied for this critical federal resource this year. Our state's allocation will only fund 15 of them. But this investment will create 789 and preserve 57 affordable homes in communities across Washington. 53% of these units are for people experiencing homelessness--a greater proportion than in the last two allocation years--and 93% are for people earning 50% of area median income or less.

These projects will now be thoroughly reviewed for fiscal feasibility etc. before going to our Commission for approval in the coming months.

Housing Trust Fund projects:
In order to help projects that were left out of the 2018 LIHTC round because of the delay of the state capital budget, on Jan. 25 we briefed our Commissioners on a proposed solution: A new 9% competitive round later this year using some portion of our 2019 LIHTC allocation.

We plan to provide a specific proposal and ask our Commissioners to take action at their February meeting. In the meantime, we will hold an open stakeholder engagement process.
