Administration DivisionEmployee Recognition

The Employee Recognition Program recognizes outstanding achievements and contributions of Commission employees. Nominations are submitted by staff and selections are made by a cross-divisional panel of peers. The following text and photos were provided by the Employee Recognition Committee:

EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR—MARJI JOHNSON

"With more than 15 years of service here at the Commission, this person exemplifies the Mission, Vision, and Values that drive our work every day. Congratulations to Marji Johnson, Employee of the Year!

Kim Herman and Marji JohnsonExecutive Director Kim Herman and Marji Johnson

In those 15-plus years, Marji has amassed a wealth of history and knowledge . . . and, more importantly . . . she remembers it! In the rare instance she is unable to come up with the right answer off the top of her head, she takes it upon herself to research the Internal Revenue Code, HUD manuals, and any other relevant materials in order to find that answer.

No matter how busy Marji is with her own workload, she is always available to the rest of her team to answer questions and share her experience and expertise. She is a tireless worker, always willing to help her team and support staff on any project.

Marji is personable and easy to talk to; on matters both professional and personal. She understands the balance that needs to be realized in administering the programs we oversee while delivering affordable housing to those who need it . . . and having fun doing it. She has long been the one to get birthday cards for others in her division; making sure everyone signs it before it gets to the birthday boy or girl. From handling the office Holiday decorations, to keeping the employee recognition committee on task, Marji seems to be everywhere at once!

Marji’s extensive work on the WBARS system has been indispensible to keeping our data accurate and up to date, as well as preparing for our complicated data submission requirements to HUD. Her skill and professional acumen are obvious; to both internal staff and our many external stakeholders.

It is for these reasons, and so many more, that Marji was given a special gift a few months back. It was one of those “Easy” buttons that were featured on commercials for the office supply chain Staples. However, this button, when pushed, gave forth a recorded voice that says, “That’s because I know EVERYTHING!”

Marji’s Division Director said the following about her:  “Her daily schedule consists of efficiently and professionally completing the requirements of her job description and then spending the balance of each day helping other staff with a myriad extra tasks; helping other compliance officers, support staff and management staff. She has been known to occasionally hide from me as I hunt her down to get help researching a State or Federal policy issue, or doing an Access database query for a stakeholder request, or some other quick question, or . . . whatever. I confess that I sometimes seek her assistance six or seven times in a single day!”

Please join me in congratulating the Employee of the Year . . . Marji Johnson!"
